Earl Grey Tea with Chen Pi – Qimen Black Tea Base
This unique Earl Grey Tea with Chen Pi blends the refined smoothness of authentic Qimen black tea with both bright bergamot citrus and the warming depth of aged Chen Pi (tangerine peel). The result is a layered, aromatic tea that combines Western fragrance traditions with the comforting richness of traditional Chinese ingredients.
Picked in May, Qimen black tea offers a naturally sweet, floral, and slightly cocoa-toned profile, famous for its smooth, elegant body. To this, natural bergamot essence adds a clean and uplifting citrus top note, the classic hallmark of Earl Grey.
The addition of Chen Pi transforms the blend into something exceptional: the aged tangerine peel contributes a warm, rounded citrus sweetness, light herbal depth, and a soothing finish. It softens the sharper citrus notes of bergamot and enriches the brew with a comforting, mellow warmth, making this Earl Grey both fragrant and grounding.
Aged Chen Pi is tangerine peel that has been sun-dried and patiently stored over many years, allowing it to mature into a richly layered ingredient with warm aromas of citrus, wood, and gentle spice.
Deeply cherished in traditional Chinese culture, it is used in both culinary and herbal traditions, where prolonged ageing is believed to mellow its flavour and strengthen its digestive properties. With time, the peel becomes smoother and increasingly complex, transforming a humble fruit skin into a treasured ingredient imbued with depth, heritage, and character.
Balanced, aromatic, and refined, this tea is ideal for those who appreciate classic Earl Grey but desire a richer, more nuanced cup with a distinctly Chinese character.
NOTE: Not suitable for drinking with milk. This Early Grey is very well balanced and low in tannins; milk would kill this tea!
