White Peony Tea Special Grade (Fuding Bai Mudan)
White Peony Tea Special Grade (Fuding Bai Mudan) is an exquisite expression of Fujian’s celebrated white-tea tradition, meticulously crafted in Fuding City, the core birthplace of authentic white tea. The region’s unique coastal–mountain microclimate, abundant mist, and mineral-rich red soil create the ideal environment for producing tender, high-quality buds and leaves. Cool spring air and filtered sunlight slow leaf growth, allowing the tea to accumulate greater sweetness, nutrients, and aromatic compounds.
This beautiful white tea is harvested in early April around the Qingming Festival, and only fresh shoots meeting the strict standard of “one plump bud with two well-developed leaves” are chosen. Each leaf set is thick, fleshy, and covered with a dense layer of silvery-white down, an indicator of purity, freshness, and exceptional grade. After careful handpicking, the tea leaves undergo traditional sun-withering and gentle drying, a minimalist process that preserves the tea’s natural shape, vitality, and inner fragrance.
The finished dry tea displays a beautiful mix of silvery-white buds and soft grayish-green leaves, arranged in a naturally elegant, peony-like form, hence the name “White Peony.” The appearance is full and balanced, with plenty of fine white hairs that speak to its authentic Fuding origin.
When infused, the leaves slowly open, releasing a light apricot-yellow liquor that is clean, bright, and soft in character. The aroma of this white tea is a sophisticated combination of floral sweetness, fresh honey, and spring greenery, with subtle fruit undertones. On the palate, the tea is smooth, refreshing, and lightly sweet, offering a gentle mouthfeel that lingers with the purity of early-spring tea.
As a high-grade white tea made from young spring material, White Peony Special Grade also possesses notable ageing potential. Over time, the liquor deepens, the sweetness intensifies, and the aroma evolves into warm notes of jujube, malt, and honey, making it both a delightful daily tea and a meaningful tea for collection.
