Rare, Handmade, Fo Shou Oolong, Buddha’s Hand Oolong Tea
Fo Shou Oolong, also known as Buddha’s Hand Oolong, is a distinctive Chinese oolong tea celebrated for its bold leaf shape, expressive aroma, and smooth, rounded character. This tea is traditionally produced in Yongchun County, a region renowned for crafting aromatic oolongs that balance freshness with depth.
This outstanding Fo Shou (Buddha’s Hand) Oolong is a high-grade tea from Yongchun, carefully crafted by experienced artisans using traditional hand-processing methods and slow, gentle charcoal roasting. Every step of the process is attentively managed to honour the cultivar’s unique character while building depth, harmony, and aromatic complexity.
Cultivated in the beautiful, largely untouched mountain terrain of Yongchun at elevations of up to 900 metres, the tea trees flourish within a naturally balanced ecosystem. Fed by pure mountain spring water and anchored in mineral-rich red clay soil, they produce leaves with vibrant aromatics, a smooth, rounded mouthfeel, and a clean, lingering sweetness that beautifully expresses the region’s distinctive terroir.
Origin & Terroir
Yongchun is a county in western Quanzhou, southern Fujian Province, China, situated along the upper reaches of the Jin River.
Fo Shou Oolong Tea is made from a unique large-leaf cultivar named for its resemblance to the open fingers of the Buddha’s hand. The area’s humid climate, mineral-rich soil, and misty elevations provide ideal conditions for developing the tea’s signature fragrance and mellow structure.
Traditional Craftsmanship
Harvested at peak maturity, the leaves are carefully processed using classic oolong techniques, including withering, partial oxidation, rolling, and gentle roasting. This attentive, semi-handcrafted approach preserves the cultivar’s bold aromatic profile while refining the tea into a smooth, balanced, and approachable cup.
