Da Hong Pao – Grade A, Rock Oolong Tea
Da Hong Pao tea, the legendary rock oolong of the Wuyi Mountains, grows on mineral-rich rocky soils that give the tea its famous depth, structure, and “rock rhyme” (Yan Yun). The rugged cliffs and misty gorges of Wuyi create a unique growing environment where tea plants absorb abundant minerals, resulting in a tea with remarkable complexity, fragrance, and strength.
Modern Da Hong Pao tea is crafted from carefully selected cultivars such as Rougui, Shuixian, and Baijiguan, each contributing subtle variations in aroma and flavour. Differences in soil composition, elevation, sunlight, and traditional roasting techniques all influence the final profile, which is how tea masters evaluate and classify high-quality Da Hong Pao Tea.
This Grade A selection showcases the signature characteristics that Da Hong Pao Tea lovers seek: a fruity and floral fragrance, a mellow yet powerful body, and a smooth, lingering finish. Skilful roasting brings forward layered sweetness and warmth while maintaining the tea’s natural vibrancy and mineral clarity.
The result is a tea that is both elegant and robust, a shining example of authentic Wuyi rock tea craftsmanship, with a harmony of fruit, flower, mineral, and fire.
