More on the story of Great Tea

A New Chapter: Why I Founded Great Tea Limited and My Passion for Tea

There is something rather special about a good cup of tea, alone or with friends.

Tea is one of life's simplest pleasures, yet it has the remarkable ability to bring people together, create conversation and offer a moment of calm in an otherwise busy world. For me, tea has always been more than just a drink. It represents tradition, hospitality, quality and, perhaps most importantly, the opportunity to stop for a moment and appreciate something genuinely good.

That is why, in 2025, I started Great Tea Limited, a new business venture that reflects my growing interest in tea and my enthusiasm for bringing something a little different to the market. A business very far removed from my main Intelligence, Risk and Security businesses.

The move from Personal Interest to Business Opportunity

Throughout my professional life, I have always believed in the importance of attention to detail, high standards and building relationships based on trust. Whether in business or everyday life, I appreciate products and services that deliver genuine quality rather than simply making grand promises.

My interest in tea follows a similar philosophy.

Like many British people, I have enjoyed tea for as long as I can remember, mainly tea bags, as opposed to loose-leaf teas. However, over time, I have become increasingly interested in the remarkable variety of teas available, the regions where they are grown, and the craftsmanship behind producing a truly exceptional cup.

From the delicate flavours of fine green teas to the richness of traditional black teas, there is an entire world waiting to be explored. Every variety of tea has its own character, history and story.

What particularly fascinates me is how something as seemingly straightforward as tea can involve so much knowledge, patience and skill.

The Thinking Behind Great Tea Limited

The decision to establish Great Tea Limited comes from a desire to turn that interest into something meaningful.

I believe there is a real opportunity to encourage people to look beyond the ordinary and discover just how enjoyable good tea can be.

Britain has a long and distinguished relationship with tea. It is woven into our national identity, from the morning cup that starts the working day to the traditional afternoon tea shared with friends and family.

Yet our appreciation of tea can sometimes be surprisingly limited, predominantly based on tea bags. We have often chosen the same familiar products without considering the extraordinary range of flavours and experiences available.

Through Great Tea Limited, I hope to contribute to a greater appreciation of tea, its origins and the qualities that make different varieties special.

For me, this venture is not simply about establishing another company. It is about developing a business around something I genuinely enjoy and believe has considerable potential.

Quality, Tradition and Looking Ahead

One of the things I find most appealing about tea is its ability to combine centuries of tradition with modern tastes and expectations.

Tea drinking continues to evolve. Consumers are becoming more curious about provenance, ingredients, preparation methods and the stories behind the products they purchase.

I find that encouraging.

People increasingly want authenticity. They want to understand what they are buying and appreciate the difference between an everyday product and something carefully selected for its quality.

These are values I would like to see reflected in Great Tea Limited as the business develops.

Naturally, establishing a new venture brings challenges, but it also offers tremendous opportunities to learn, meet interesting people and develop new relationships.

I am particularly looking forward to exploring the tea industry further and sharing that enthusiasm with others.

More Than Just a Cup of Tea

Ultimately, my ambitions for Great Tea Limited are rooted in a very simple belief: great tea deserves to be appreciated.

A cup of tea can welcome a guest, begin a friendship, accompany an important conversation or provide a few peaceful minutes during a demanding day.

Those small moments matter. And taking time with tea matters.

As I begin this new chapter with Great Tea Limited, I am excited about the possibilities ahead and the opportunity to turn a personal interest into a worthwhile business.

And, of course, I intend to enjoy plenty of excellent cups of tea along the way; after all, it's all about the journey.
