Type: Lightly Oxidised Oolong | Origin: Fujian or Guangdong, China
Cultivar: Jin Xuan ("Golden Daylily")
Description:
Indulge in the smooth, buttery sweetness of our Chinese Milk Oolong Tea, crafted from the prized Jin Xuan cultivar (Nai Xiang). Grown in the misty highlands of Fujian Province, China, this exceptional oolong is celebrated for its naturally creamy aroma and silky texture, a flavour profile that has earned Milk Oolong its legendary status among tea enthusiasts worldwide.
Unlike artificially flavoured blends, this tea’s signature milky fragrance is entirely natural, developed through a careful combination of cultivar genetics and traditional processing methods. The result is a cup that’s luxuriously soft, with notes of sweet cream, light butter, and gentle floral undertones reminiscent of orchid and gardenia. As you sip, each infusion reveals new layers of flavour, making this tea ideal for mindful, multiple-brew sessions.
Authentic Origin and Craftsmanship
Our Milk Oolong is harvested from the lush hills of Fujian, where the unique terroir, fertile red soils, cool mountain mists, and carefully managed tea gardens contribute to the tea’s distinct flavour. The leaves are hand-picked and lightly oxidised, then carefully rolled to preserve their aromatic oils. This traditional processing enhances the tea’s signature creaminess while maintaining a delicate floral bouquet.
The Jin Xuan cultivar, developed in Taiwan in the 1980s, has since found a perfect second home in Fujian. Here, farmers use generations-old techniques to coax out its characteristic buttery smoothness without the need for artificial scents or additives. Every batch is small-scale and meticulously monitored, ensuring a consistent and high-quality cup.
Flavour Profile and Brewing Experience
In the cup, Chinese Milk Oolong produces a pale golden liquor with a soft, creamy mouthfeel. The first sip is rich and smooth, evoking sweet dairy notes balanced by a subtle floral freshness. As the tea unfurls over subsequent infusions, expect evolving layers of almond, vanilla, and spring blossom, a journey that keeps tea lovers coming back for more.
For the best experience, use water heated to around 85–90 °C (185–194 °F) and steep 2–3 grams of leaf for 2–3 minutes when brewing Western-style. If you prefer the traditional Gongfu method, shorter steeps (20–30 seconds) with more leaf will allow you to enjoy multiple flavorful infusions, each one slightly different from the last.
Wellness Benefits
Beyond its remarkable flavour, Milk Oolong Tea is rich in antioxidants and polyphenols that may support heart health, digestion, and mental clarity. Regular oolong consumption is associated with improved metabolism and a gentle energy boost, perfect for enjoying throughout the day without the jitters of coffee.
